Tyler Andrew Mitchell was born in 1979 in Baltimore, Maryland and was aware of his artistic talent and ambition at a very young age. His work was in exhibitions as early as elementary school and by high school he had fully realized his passion for painting and drawing. Through the advice of his teacher he applied for and won The Maryland Distinguished Scholar Award and scholarship, one of only two granted in the entire state. By the time he had graduated high school he had pieces recognized and sold in various exhibitions, including a work displayed in the Governor's mansion in Annapolis. He later went on to Savannah College of Art and Design where he received his B.F.A. of Painting in 2002. In his years at S.C.A.D. he found that his interests did not stop at painting and developed a love for photography, sculpture, and design making him a multifaceted artist. Color, texture, and above all, composition are the main concern of his works. He strived to find theses elements naturally occurring in nature and the urban environments that we are surrounded by. In this searching he finds the simple beauties of this world that many pass by, every minute of everyday. Tyler has also put his eye to work in design projects ranging from album covers to logo design to clothing and apparel. He was also recently published in Surfing Magazine. Now residing in San Diego, California he travels the world in search of inspiration for his work.
